It’s been a crazy but amazing few weeks since we arrived in Hawaii! We flew into Honolulu on July 8th. We stayed at the Aston Beach Hotel in Waikiki for a week before moving to our condo.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, we picked up our new car on the 2nd day here in Hawaii. We worked with Military Car Sales while we were still living in Japan and had a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude built for us! We love it. It is beautiful and is the perfect vehicle for us.
We chose not to live on base here and it was the perfect decision for us. I love our condo. See that photo above? Yeah, that is Lanikai Beach, very close to my home! We were very lucky to be able to find the place we did, in the location we did with having 2 small dogs.
It’s been fairly easy getting adjusted here. It does get hot & humid but I can not compare it to the misery of Japan in the dead of summer. You will find AC at all stores and entertainment facilities. However, having AC at home is not the norm here. I was a little worried at first, my fears stemming from my miserable summers in Japan.
In our condo there are many big (floor to ceiling) windows which allow the trade winds to flow through. We are waiting on our screen door to be installed but when it is, it will help move the air.
We did purchase two portable AC units, one for our bedroom, the other for my craft room. The rest of the house though is open to fresh air. So, it is nice to go into my bedroom and rock in my rocking chair for a few minutes if it get’s to hot and humid. Plus, sleeping is very nice and comfortable!
The beaches are amazing. If you know me personally, then you have seen, lol. We took a nice drive last weekend. We drive more than halfway around the island, stopping along the way to check out the areas and beaches. Beautiful…just beautiful.
While I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to live in Japan, I am MUCH happier here in Hawaii and I never want to leave!
